Performance ratings

Below are the performance ratings from Royal Ascot, which can be used to compare the merit of their achievements against the previous 12 winners of each contest from the book. The performance that took my eye was that of Aqlaam in the Jersey Stakes – a race with a decent pedigree in which above-par winners have followed up.
Don’t forget the book can also be used to guide you with the subsequent records of placed runners too in races like the Windsor Castle Stakes.

I mentioned earlier in the season that when analysing each runner for a trends race it can be worth backtracking, and a good example was Big Timer in the Wokingham, who was a runner-up previously in the John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock (J.W. Lees Stakes) where they have a profitable subsequent record.
Not that clever cloggs here backed it as my ante-post bet on Orpsie Boy was pulled out on Saturday morning, so apologies to anyone who punted him.
My editor at the Guardian, Tony Paley, was at Ascot on Saturday and spoke to connections who said that he scoped badly in the morning. There will hopefully be another day for him – big field on fast ground. I managed to get some money back on the race with King’s Apostle each-way that I mentioned as the danger.
