Not so ‘Glorious’ from my perspective, as I’m now on the minus side of the profit column this week.
I was ahead until yesterday thanks to Firestreak and my cricket bet, but the trends races I’ve previewed and bet in have been a disaster - one crumb of comfort was that Indian Days emerged from the Newmarket handicap.
I also backed Quinzey’s Best at Sandown from the No.1 Top Of The Form race but it ran a shocker.
Perhaps my boy Orpsie can turn things around in the Steward’s Cup on Saturday.
I doubt there’s a person in the country who knows how the draw will work out, but as Graham Cunningham points out in today’s Racing Post, it can pay to concentrate on those fancied runners that are on a handy mark, rather than get in knots over the draw. It looks fairly level on what I saw on Thursday, with Enticing coming down the middle, and then the stands’ side marginally landing the finale.
There appears to be pace all over on Saturday, so I can’t seeing there being a huge draw bias. I’ve already backed Orpsie Boy at 40/1 and have had a smaller one on Barney McGrew at 20/1, as there looks to be a big race in him.
Not my week on the horse racing front, but the show goes on, and I’ve done a preview of Friday’s Richmond Stakes below.
I’ll be back early next week with performance ratings and Top Of The Form updates.
Have a good weekend.
RICHMOND STAKES
Blown It – Already raced in a Group event which is a negative, low draw and price too big.
Desert Icon – Last time out winner, but winners of this haven’t arrived via Windsor and likely outsider.
Gallagher – Respected as yard won it twice and last time out victory in a maiden was clocked in a fast time. Chance.
Khor Dubai – Raced more than three times and no last time out winner took a nursery.
Prolific - Raced more than three times and yard one to swerve in this.
Reve De Soleil - Raced more than three times and likely outsider.
Rileyskeepingfaith – Likeable profile and last time out victory in a Newmarket maiden bodes well. Chance.
Saucy Brown – Winners don’t usually arrive via Listed races and yard 0/15 in last 12 years in this.
Saxford - Raced more than three times.
Smokey Storm – Raced more than three times, unplaced last time out in a Group race.
Total Gallery – Won a nice maiden last time that has worked out OK. By Namid, though, who usually like some cut and he may need some rain.
Waffle – Won a maiden at Leicester back in April and not seen since which goes against the ‘last run’ trend. Yard in-form, though, and 33% with juveniles here.
SHORT-LIST: Gallagher – Waffle – Rileyskeepingfaith
