No Saturday sirloin...just KFC!

Right bet, but the wrong outcome in the Cambridgeshire on Saturday.
Prince Kalamoun simply went out like a light and obviously something went amiss – Spencer reported that the horse lost its action. Bottom line is it lost, and I imagine the horse will spring up at Nad Al Sheba after a 90-day break in the winter and win at decent odds! Formal Decree took that route so keep an eye out for him when the Dubai Carnival gets underway.

Although the result was a boneshaker, I still enjoyed the week leading up to the race, watching its price collapse, seeing the champion jockey booked and then the rain staying away. Adds to the excitement. Like the week leading up to Christmas Day, plenty of anticipation, just the wrong present!
I had the job of texting my editor, Tony Paley, the result, as he backed it at 33s too and was in France for Longchamp. He managed to back Zarkava in the Arc at 7s in the summer, though, so I’ve been forgiven!

Did anyone else notice the ‘buzz’ horse that lost in the Ayr Silver Cup – Mullein – sneak in at 11-2 at Warwick on Monday. I managed to nap it under Top Form ratings in the Guardian, but couldn’t believe the SP. It went off 6-1 at Ayr, so I was amazed it could be that big against inferior rivals with an inside draw back on better ground.

At least I’ve got the cricket getting underway this week to try and make some money, roll on Thursday for India v Australia. I’ll be back later this week, stay tuned for news about Racing Trends Revealed 2008/09 ‘The Road to Cheltenham’, which is released later this month.

Here are this week’s ratings and form entries.

TATTERSALL STAKES – Ashram 70

CHEVELEY PARK STAKES – Serious Attitude 70

MIDDLE PARK STAKES – Bushranger 78

JOEL STAKES – Eagle Mountain 77

SUN CHARIOT STAKES – Halfway To Heaven 80

CAMBRIDGESHIRE – Tazeez 73

TWO-YEAR-OLD TROPHY – Total Gallery 60

TOP OF THE FORM

Results could’ve been better last week from the horses I list here, although Total Gallery did land the Redcar 2YO Trophy, and there were several winners amongst the remainder of the Top 20 races, including a few at double-figure odds.
Here are this week’s entries from Tuesday October 7 onwards, involving the eyecatchers that are mentioned in my Racing and Football Outlook column:

Absent Pleasure (Friday, Saturday) – Newmarket win been franked nicely and was a creditable third back there from a bad draw last time as high numbers were favoured throughout the day.

Al Gillani – The form from the first three home of this Great Leighs maiden has worked out well, as they have all complimented each other.

Artzola – Still early days for this Wolverhampton handicap from Sep 12 but two winners have already emerged and Artzola caught the eye running on into fifth.

Bold Argument – Took care of three subsequent winners at Salisbury.

Casela Park (Friday) - The form from the first three home of this Great Leighs maiden has worked out well, as they have all complimented each other.

Elijah Pepper – Form of Pontefract victory has worked out and trainer David Barron knows how to place progressive sprinters.

Fanditha (Sunday) – Salisbury fillies’ maiden win looks decent with the second and third obliging, and she deserves another chance on better ground after finding the Goffs Million on soft ground too much.

Hawk Mountain – This lightly raced three-year-old has improved with each run, staying on well here in front of two future victors. Should gain compensation in another staying handicap.

Hazzard County - Stayed on into third at Great Leighs and deserves to land one after some consistent efforts.

Head Down - Excellent second to Rose Diamond and could win a nursery.

Lonely Star – Fifth at Sandown worked out well, and should pick up a maiden, ideally back against her own sex – had a poor draw at Kempton on Monday.

Make Amends (Sunday) - Was seen making late ground into eighth on just his third outing at Bath.

Mullglen - Weatherbys Super Sprit working out well, especially those from the lower-half of the field that are given reasonable targets next time.

Nizhoni Dancer – Leicester nursery win looks good after the placed runners scored, and she is capable of defying a higher mark.

Pacific Ocean - Decent fourth at Yarmouth and a repeat on soft ground could suffice.

Pearl Of Manacor – Excellent third in Newbury maiden, which has churned out five subsequent winners.

Prospect Court - Sixth to Angus Newz was good form and is one to store away possibly for the autumn as he loves the mud and has slipped to a winning mark.

Too Much Trouble – Sandown victory has worked out well, producing a future Listed winner, and could be capable of stepping up in class.

Wasan (Saturday) – Took a classy handicap at Doncaster that has been boosted, and this Pivotal colt will enjoy the autumn mud.

Wreningham - The form from the first three home of this Great Leighs maiden has worked out well, as they have all complimented each other.
