Performance ratings for Kempton March 29

Rosebery Handicap - Philatelist 73

Magnolia Stakes - Kandidate 72

Philatelist impressed in taking the Rosebery and with four of the five above-par four-year-old winners of this handicap going on to subsequent success, Michael Jarvis's progressive colt looks one to follow. The trainer had a similar type in Pulau Tioman back in 2000, who nearly followed up in another tough handicap before compensation in Listed grade.

Although the Spring Mile handicap on Lincoln weekend at Doncaster wasn't included in the book, this event has thrown up some extremely progressive individuals over the years such as Autumn Glory, Katie Nowaitee and Bomb Alaska. In fact their downfall was that they were too well-handicapped and missed the Lincoln cut.
This year's renewal witnessed another winner on the upgrade in Don't Panic, who has been the subject of many a favourable mention amongst the racing media within the past week. With the runner-up, Benandonner, landing a tasty handicap at Southwell on Tuesday (April 1), the strength of that form is looking solid and it will be a surprise if Don't Panic isn't in the winner's enclosure in the near future as long as he isn't asked to shoot too high - often a classic error by connections, though Mr Chapple-Hyam will know where to go with him.

This weekend is the only one in the Flat season that doesn’t involve a major Flat race from the book until the November Handicap so take a deep breath and enjoy the calm before the storm – only the Grand National winner to pick on Saturday!
The Beeb will no doubt be running the old clips of past winners we’ve all seen numerous times, including Foinavon’s 1967 victory in black and white after missing all the earlier carnage – the clip with the stationary train in the background. However, a colleague of mine shrewdly pointed out to me that there is some extremely rare footage of the race in colour on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAnNvNvgjv8.
You can view the famous incident from a totally different angle - well worth a look.

Good luck.
