Future pointers

Some of you may recall my first book ‘Future Trends’ in 2005, that highlighted races throughout the year from which winners went on to make a profit. They included all types of events including maidens.
One such race from Salisbury with a superb long-term history happened to be staged two Wednesday’s ago and was pointed out on this blog back on July 9 by Julio.

The race in question was the EBF Maiden for juveniles over a mile – often split into two divisions – which was last year won by the subsequent-winning Oaks victor Look Here. A glance at the results below show that winners of this maiden have proven very profitable to follow, and it was interesting to note in this week’s Timeform black book that they have the winner of the second division from this season, Ouster, top of their ‘large P’ list on 91P (The ‘large P’ list is for those horses ‘capable of much better form’).

Year, winner (including divisions) & next three runs:

2008
State Banquet - ?
Ouster - ?

2007
Look Here – Lost, WON 33/1, Lost
Huzzah – Lost, Lost, WON 14/1

2003

2002

2001

2000

1995

1994

Marcus Tregoning’s winners have proven disappointing, but Sir Michael Stoute’s above-par runners were worth noting, along with several runners-up, which included the likes of Doctor Fremantle and Papal Bull in recent years.
Those of you with access to databases or websites that alert you when a horse appears may want to add some names from this year’s renewals for next season – especially OUSTER.

I’ll be back early next week with updates, happy punting to all over the sunny weekend, where three TV races from Ascot appear in the book on pages 210-212.

Good luck.

Dave,

Glad you mentioned the Salisbury maiden. I have added both Ouster and State Banquet to my list of ones to follow.

May I suggest that you add the Prix Niel to any future editions of the book. It certainly has been worth following the winners of this race for many seasons now.

Looking forward to the jumps edition arriving soon.

P.S.

Can you please supply the rating for the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes which was ran at Ascot on June 21st and won by Sugar Ray.

I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thanks,

Julio

Julio,

Sugar Ray was allocated a performance rating of 70, which was based on him being a Sir Michael Stoute four-year-old.

You're right about the Prix Niel being an excellent race to follow the winners from.
The long-term plan is to add more races to the book each season, and I plan to include a selection of foreign races in edition three of the book - French and American races mainly; Breeders' Cup etc.

Edition two of the Flat will include approx 20 new races from the UK such as the Oh So Sharp Stakes, Sceptre Stakes, Ayr Silver Cup and various Group races from Ireland.

I will be revealing more about the second edition of the Flat along with the new jumps edition in the coming weeks on the blog.
